So I do custom work- quilts, pillows, bags, and gifts as time allows and opportunities present themselves. Recently one of my Houston Modern Quilt Guild friends reached out to see if I could help update a monogrammed pillow case.
She sent me this picture and asked me if I could help her. Some questions I always have to ask is the size. Currently I have a limitation of 5″x7″ hoop. This works well for most of the projects I work on but I’d love to upgrade my embroidery machine at some point.
This particular design was about 6×6 but after talking about the limitations I have we agreed we could make it work!
She sent me the fabric which is a beautiful textured Essex linen I believe, in a chocolate brown color. The next step is to choose a design and thread color. I sent her the following images to finalize the embroidery plan.
She agreed this looked good then we are off to the races! I like to mark my design center with chalk, because it removes easily and it makes sure I get the hoop and design where I need it! For this particular project, the placement was not crucial as I just had a large piece of fabric. I did make sure that she had enough room on both sides to make a pillow front + seam allowance.
I snipped a few threads and then sent this one back to it’s owner to be made into a beautiful pillow. Have you tried machine embroidery before? Would you like a detailed tutorial?
Check out the finished project! It’s going to look great as an update from it’s previous version 🙂
