I hope you are loving Jessica and I’s low-key fall sew along to do backpacks! Lots of amazing backpacks are popping up by I knew when I saw Sassafras Lane original Parker Pack that it would be an awesome opportunity to showcase a wonderful print in two colorways.
I knew the main midcentury house in two colorways would perfectly suit this purpose! This fabric line can be found at Fat Quarter Shop! It’s called Community designed by Citrus & Mint.
The Parker Pack is a great pattern that has straps to carry the bag two ways- I ended up loving this feature the most!
The way they used fabric to create a strip on this bag inspired me!
So I knew that was the direction I wanted to go, so I ended up using the Hilary Jordan pattern matching technique– and it turned out to be an interesting quilt front! I did end up quilting it with one of my favorite serpentine stitches on my Janome.
I also fell deeply in love with the lining fabric I choose. I think I could wear this print happily!
I did modify the pattern slightly to use webbing and a coordinating quilting cotton for the handles but I love how the entire look turned out!
I even took this bag on a train ride into downtown Boston and I loved the flexibility to hold it in multiple ways! The pockets on the inside kept my keys and hand sanitizer easy to access. Perfection!
Check out this new Riley Blake Fabric line at Fat Quarter Shop and make a backpack of your own!
Happy Making! – Tina
