I just love Christmas fabric, it makes me feel things. If you’ve walked into a fabric shop and laid eyes on Christmas fabric, you know that it brings up happy or idealistic memories of Christmas movies, traditions, or just the hope that Wintertime and a new year brings. Well I saw this Riley Blake Farmhouse Christmas fabric and it reminded me of chopping down a Christmas tree on a pick-your-own farm.
This fabric reminded me of the Christmas Traditions Riley Blake fabric I made stockings out of last year. Those stockings turned out so adorable and they need a matching or coordinating quilt, right? Right.
Well originally I mocked up a Spiral Nova by Vasudha – the pattern is so cool! But I made a slight mistake when I went to cut the strips, a happy accident in the end… I cut one of the strip sets on the opposite angle, forming and accidental chevron!
So I asked my friend Stacy what she would prefer- and she loved my condensed chevron improv! And I love how it turned out!
Next up was quilting! I knew I wanted to do a fun all over-ish meander, and asked Hilary, Marisa, and Carol for help! We decided to go with the silver/cream variegated Aurifil Thread 4060– it reads just a little sage green in person. and then I used the olive green 5012 in 40wt to match the thread I quilted the stockings with last year!
Now for the fulllll reveal! I love the bold gingham print in this line and cut the olive green version on the bias for a beautiful binding!
In a stroke of bad luck we had to get a few trees chopped down, but the wood pile and trunks went very well with the vibe of this Farmhouse Christmas fabric! Check out and grab this fabric at Fat Quarter Shop (affiliate link).
Also keep in mind Riley Blake has excellent basic prints, I used the tone on tone cream blossom print to go with this quilt!
Let me know, what would you make with this line?
